How does Fraxel re:pair work and how is it different?
As opposed to traditional CO2 resurfacing lasers, which ablate 100% of the skin (vaporize and remove it all at once), leading to extended downtime, wound care and high risk of complications, the Fraxel re:pair laser is the first CO2 laser to treat the skin fractionally and deeply. The Fraxel re:pair lays down thousands of tiny microscopic wounds in the skin, penetrating much deeper than traditional ablative lasers, but leaving the cells around these tiny wounds untouched. The tissue in each of the microscopic wounds is removed with the use of the CO2 energy. The healthy tissue surrounding the wounds then contracts, which leads to immediate tissue tightening. This spared tissue between treatment zones also promotes rapid healing while stimulating collagen production in the deep layers and new epidermal cells in the top layer.
What does the Fraxel re:pair laser treat?
- Wrinkles that are mild, moderate, and deep
- Skin tone, texture, and pore size
- Skin laxity (tediate tissue tightening)
- Treats deeper wrinkles
- Requires only 1 treatment
While there are many other “fractional” CO2 lasers being used by physicians, there is only one “Fraxel re:pair,” the best, safest, and most effective of all lasers of this type. Dr. Klein researched these lasers thoroughly before choosing the Fraxel re:pair. While it was a much more expensive laser to acquire (twice the price of the others), Dr. Klein chose it because she always wants the “best in class” lasers for her patients. Many of these other lasers require many treatments and because they do not penetrate as deeply, do not achieve the degree of improvement that Fraxel re:pair does.
What are the possible side effects of Fraxel re:pair treatments?
There are always risks with any cosmetic procedure. The most common side effects for any ablative laser are loss of color, increase in color, infection and scarring. These risks are very rare with Fraxel re:pair; no serious side effects have been reported to our knowledge. Compared with traditional CO2 laser it is much safer with less downtime and fewer side effects.
Before your first Fraxel treatment you must be seen for a pre-Fraxel appointment.
How should I prepare for my treatment?
During your pre-Fraxel consultation visit we will discuss which products are best to use before, during and after your treatment. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections may be recommended prior to your laser treatment to relax facial movement in key areas (such as crow’s feet, frown lines and forehead creases) allowing for better laser penetration into deeper wrinkles. For 2 weeks prior to your laser treatment avoid sun exposure and self tanner and wear a SPF 30 sunscreen daily.
Patient Reviews
I am writing to share with you my very positive experience with a Fraxel re:pair procedure performed by Nancy Koehler and Brittney. I was very happy that they both performed the procedure with the utmost professionalism and kindness. They reduced any fear of the experience by advising me through each step of the process by explaining what was about to happen. Additionally, they virtually reduced any pain to almost null. I would happily advise anyone to have the procedure done at your office because of all of the safety measures taken to reduce any possible risk of infection, the ease of the experience and the high level of professionalism.

I was impressed with the improvement gained for such a short downtime and minimal discomfort. Post-procedural care was simple, allowing me to work at home for the first three days, after which I began to go out in public. From my point of view, the Fraxel re:pair procedure accomplished all of my goals; my skin is smoother and tighter and my sun and age spots are gone.
How can I maximize my results and maintain them?
Since your skin will continue to age naturally, we recommend maintaining your results by using physician-strength rejuvenation products at home and having periodic Fraxel re:store (non-ablative) laser treatments annually. These will help slow down the aging process and keep your skin younger looking, longer. You may only require another Fraxel treatment every few years or not at all. As always, wear a hat and sunscreen when outdoors.
For faster healing (up to 3 days faster) we recommend adding platelet rich plasma (PRP) to your treatment. Derived from your own blood, PRP is applied after your laser treatment and releases growth factors which speed healing.
* Because neck skin may require lower power levels to treat safely, 2 treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired results. Occasionally patients may also desire their faces to be treated more than once. We offer a 25% discount off the regular price if a 2nd treatment is performed to the same area within 1 year of the first treatment to that area.
