Restylane® is one of several dermal fillers Dr. Lorrie Klein offers at our Orange County practice. Restylane reduces moderate wrinkles and smooths the lines running from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds). It is also a very popular option for women and men who want to restore lost volume to areas like the lips or tear troughs.
Dr. Klein is recognized as one of the nation’s leading injectors of dermal fillers. If you live in Newport Beach, San Clemente, or anywhere in between, request a consultation online to find out how she can help you to look younger with fillers. Why Choose Restylane
Like Juvederm®, Restylane is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler. HA is a substance that naturally occurs in your body, so allergy skin tests aren’t needed. Restylane is often used to treat areas where a thicker, more robust gel is needed to correct wrinkles. It can be used to treat the nasolabial folds (from the nose to above the lips), cheeks, chin, back of the hands, or glabellar lines (between the eyebrows). It is also the only product approved by the FDA for lip enhancement in patients 21 and older.
Your Treatment
Treatments with dermal fillers such as Restylane typically take less than an hour. Restylane includes lidocaine, an anesthetic designed to make the injections more comfortable.
Preparing for Your Treatment
- Wash your face thoroughly, removing lipstick and face creams.
- Don’t take aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil), vitamin E, fish oil and similar medications for 1 to 2 weeks before your treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.
- Use Arnica montana (an herbal medicine) the morning of your treatment or immediately after to help reduce bruising and swelling (you can buy a physician-strength version at our office).
- Tell us before your treatment if you have a history of herpes (cold sores) in this area so we can prescribe a medication that will help prevent an outbreak.

The Treatment
Treatments last between 5 and 20 minutes and are usually painless. Depending on the areas treated, you may need more than one syringe to create the results you want. A follow-up treatment may be needed 4 to 8 weeks after your first treatment to fine-tune your results and produce longer lasting improvement. Volume typically lasts between 6 and 12 months, but we can perform touch-ups sooner if you want to refresh your results.
After Your Treatment
Apply cold packs for 10 to 15 minutes every 15 minutes to 1 hour for several hours after your treatment to help reduce swelling and bruising. Taking Arnica montana for 1 to 2 days will also help. Avoid squeezing or massaging the treated areas for several hours after treatment as this may subtly change the shape we are trying to achieve. Sleeping on two pillows for the first night may help reduce lip swelling. If we have treated your cheeks, sleep on your back the first night.
